How to Register a Boat or Vehicle in Louisiana

Documents needed to bring to the Office of Motor Vehicles (Find Location) or Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (Find Location) to register and apply for title:

• Vehicles
  • Notarized Bill of Sale
  • Title – With the Seller’s signature and property assigning it to the new owner
  • Odometer Disclosure Statement
  • Registration Application
  • UCC-1 Financial Disclosure Statement
  • Proof of Insurance
  • If Out of State – Current Registration
  • If Out of State – Sales Tax Payment Receipt
• Boats
  • Notarized Bill of Sale
  • Title – If you have not applied you may do so by using the application (See instructions)
  • Registration Application
  • If the boat is being registered for the first time in Louisiana, it must undergo an inspection.
