Tax Brackets
In the state of Montana there are 14 tax brackets, the lowest being 1.00% and the highest being 6.90% Each rate shall apply to the earnings within the marginal tax bracket that applies to your earnings. These brackets are the same in the state of Montana for single filers and married filing jointly. You will want to be certain that you are using the tax brackets that have been updated.
- Earnings between $0.00 and $2,800, you will pay 1.00% only
- Earnings between $2,800.00 and $4,900, you will pay 2.00% + $28.00
- Earnings between $4,900.00 and $7,400, you will pay 3.00% + $70.00
- Earnings between $7,400.00 and $10,100, you will pay 4.00% + $145.00
- Earnings between $10,100.00 and $13,000, you will pay 5.00% + $253.00
- Earnings between $13,000.00 and $16,700, you will pay 6.00% + $398.00
- Earnings over $16,700.00, you will pay 6.90% + $620.00
Extensions
In order to receive and extension in the state of Montana you must have applied for a federal extension with Form 4868 no later than April 17th and if you owe additional taxes to the state you must pay 90% of the owed taxes by the filing due date.
