A scholarship thank you letter is a way of showing appreciation for receiving such an honor. The donors who provide it have been very generous to help recipients fund their education so it’s only natural to thank these people for their generosity that will help the receiver learn and grow. Although donors do not ask for anything in return, showing them your appreciation reminds them of the meaningful effect of their donations.

Example Scholarship Thank You Letter

Dear Mr./Mrs. [Last name],
If the scholarship is from a general fund instead of specific people, you can address the letter “Dear [scholarship name] Donors.”
For the first paragraph, express your gratitude for receiving the support and how much it means to you. Be honest and specific about how you feel so your letter is more meaningful. For example, you can say that you are very happy to receive the support and that knowing donors want to fund your education will motivate you.
Next, you can talk about your background, your academic interests, and your career aspirations. For example, if you are a political science major, say this in the letter and share what you’d like to do with your degree, such as going to law school to eventually practice civil rights law. You could also state why you’ve chosen your intended career.
For a few closing statements, thank the donor again and express appreciation for his or her interest in funding education. You can also add a statement promising to work hard.
Finally, close your letter with “Sincerely,” or “Best regards,” aligned to the left, and underneath this write your signature. Below your signature, type your name and address, and you can add your phone number and email address if you’d like.
Be sure to proofread your letter for any typos or grammar mistakes to leave a good impression on your benefactor.
