Baskin Robbins is the world’s largest chain of ice cream restaurants. Founded in Glendale, California by Irv Robbins and Burt Baskin in 1945, the organization has since moved its corporate headquarters to Canton, Massachusetts and there are now over 7,000 retail locations worldwide. Uncommonly for a US-based restaurant chain, the company has far more stores established outside the US than here in the States.

The company is now a component of the Dunkin’ Brands Group, whose corporate philosophy can be summed up in seven core Values and five Guiding Principals. Those values are those of Honesty, Transparency, Humility, Integrity, Respectfulness, Fairness and Responsibility, while the guiding principals are Leadership, Innovation, Execution, Social Stewardship and Fun. The company adopted its now famous “31®” logo, because there are 31 days in a month, and each should be celebrated with a different flavor of delicious ice cream. The founders believed that everyone should be able to try before they buy, and instituted a regime of free samples for all, and came up with its own tiny pink spoons with which to provide that tasty sample. Over the years, the company has pioneered many innovations that have reached far beyond the ice cream business, such as franchising, where Baskin Robbins was one of the early innovators.
