Use the Florida notary public forms for filing the procedures for acquiring a Notary Public Commission. Florida is one of a handful of states that will require each applicant to take 3 hours of education either online or in a classroom. A Notary Public in the State of Florida is a public officer who is commissioned by the Governor’s office to perform notarial acts and to serve as an official and impartial witness to various signing of documentation and various other official duties.

  • Requirements
    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Must be a resident of the state or an adjoining state but have a workplace in the state of Florida.
    • If you have committed a felony inside or outside of the state of Florida, you must apply for clemency before applying to become a Notary.
    • You must pass a 3 hour Notary Public educational course.
    • You must carry a $7,500 Notary Bond.

How to Become a Notary in Florida

Step 1 – Applying to a Bonding Company – You must choose from a list of approved bonding companies for your bond. The company you choose will also supply your application. They will also submit your materials to the Department of State for you.

Step 2 – Complete Your Application – You would now complete your application and submit it back to the company that provided your application to you. Along with your application, you will also submit the bonding form stating you’ve acquired bond,your official certificate proving you’ve completed 3 hours of education and a $39.00 processing fee.

Step 3 – Receive Your Notary Commission Certificate – Wait to receive your Notary Commission. If you’re approved, you should receive your certification within 2-3 weeks.

Step 4 – Order Your Notary Public Supplies – Again, you may only order your Notary Supplies through your bonding company. You may choose your designs but you must always use black ink for your seal. Once you’ve received your supplies, you’re in business as a Florida State Notary Public.
