How to Use a Flyer Template

Required Information for Flyers:

  • Location
  • Date and time
  • Artist or subject of event
  • Cost of attendance
  • Promotional information
  • Catchy images and text
  • Any other necessary information

One of the key jobs of a flyer is to capture the readers’ attention. This requires you to consider who your audience is. Understanding your target audience will help you think of graphics and a message that would appeal to them. For example, flyers for an acclaimed DJ’s show at a nightclub could feature bright neon lights or lasers against a dark background to reflect the atmosphere and experience of attending the show. Consider images and words that reflect your event AND that would look attractive on the flyer.

Remember not to include too much text on your flyer though, because if you tire the readers with unnecessary information, they could lose interest in the event.

If you are not a skilled graphic designer, you can find a huge range of high-quality images on the Internet that should yield some relevant results. One great way to compose your flyer is to have roughly the top half consist of a vivid image with the name of the event on top or a headline, and then the lower half can be another related image that’s darker so there’s contrast that lets you place the rest of the text (location, date, etc.) over it.

For most events, use a basic, modern typeface, such as Helvetica or Futura, to avoid distracting readers. Also, vary the font size according to how important each piece of information is, and keep these aspects consistent throughout the flyer or else it will appear unprofessional looking. Finally, break up your content so blocks of text are not more than about three sentences long, and make sure the text is properly aligned.
