Tax Brackets
The state of Missouri has twenty tax brackets. The lowest bracket is 1.50% and the highest in the state of Missouri is 6.00%. All marginal rates only apply to earnings within the marginal tax bracket that is applicable which are the same in Missouri for single, married filing jointly as well as Head of Household.
- For earnings between $0.00 and $1,000, you’ll pay 1.50%
- For earnings between $1,000.00 and $2,000, you’ll pay 2.00% plus $15.00
- For earnings between $2,000.00 and $3,000, you’ll pay 2.50% plus $35.00
- For earnings between $3,000.00 and $4,000, you’ll pay 3.00% plus $60.00
- For earnings between $4,000.00 and $5,000, you’ll pay 3.50% plus $90.00
- For earnings between $5,000.00 and $6,000, you’ll pay 4.00% plus $125.00
- For earnings between $6,000.00 and $7,000, you’ll pay 4.50% plus $165.00
- For earnings between $7,000.00 and $8,000, you’ll pay 5.00% plus $210.00
- For earnings between $8,000.00 and $9,000, you’ll pay 5.50% plus $260.00
- For earnings over $9,000.00, you’ll pay 6.00% plus $315.00
Extensions
You don’t need to file a state tax extension request if you do not expect to have any state income tax due or if you expect to get a state tax refund. You’ll receive an automatic six-month extension. If you have a federal tax extension and you owe no tax or expect a refund the Missouri Department of Revenue will automatically grant you a state tax extension also. If you did not get a federal extension, you may request a Missouri extension by using Tax Form MO-60.
