The New Mexico Rail Runner express is a rail system that serves the Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM metro areas. With its low ridership and stunning views of the New Mexico landscape, Rail Runner is a comfortable, scenic way to travel.

Unlike major metropolitan areas, Rail Runner serves a relatively small population, so its schedule is easier to follow than many other rail schedules. Rail Runner begins service in Belen station and ends at Santa Fe depot. In between, it stops at:
- Los Lunas
- Isleta Pueblo
- Bernalillo County
- Downtown Albuquerque
- MontaƱo
- Los Ranchos/JC
- Sandia Pueblo
- Downtown Bernalillo
- Sandoval/US 550
- Kewa
- SF County/NM 599
- South Capitol
The entire journey takes a little over two hours, but the trip from Santa Fe to ABQ takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Each stop is only about 10 to 20 minutes apart, but not every train goes to every stop; several trains a day only go from ABQ to Santa Fe.
Most importantly, there are a limited number of trains running each day. During the week, 11 different trains run in each direction. This reduces to six on Saturday and only three on Sunday.
Almost every train leaves around the morning and evening rush hours as well. On weekdays, one train leaves headed north at around 3 p.m., and one heads south at around 1 p.m., but every other one leaves its original station between 4:30 and 9:30 a.m., or around 4 and 9 p.m.
So plan carefully! If you miss the 9:30 a.m. train headed from ABQ to Santa Fe, you wouldn’t be able to catch another one until 4:30. Likewise, the last train leaving ABQ for Santa Fe at night on weekdays leaves at 6:50 p.m., so be sure not to miss it.
