All elements of the RTA are highly integrated with each other. One the top page, the rider will find the PLAN A TRIP device, which works in conjunction with Google Transit. After putting in the start and stop location and the time of your trip, the device returns the best route available, choosing from all elements of the system. The Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is the public transit agency for Cleveland Ohio and for the surrounding areas of Cuyahoga County. It operates a rail system consisting of one heavy rail line called The Red Line, and three light rail lines called the Blue Line, The Green Line, and the Waterfront Extension Line, the latter being an extension of the Blue and Green Lines. There is also the HealthLine, a rail-like bus-rapid transit system, a system of more than sixty bus lines, and trolley service for the downtown area.

Using the RTA Cleveland Schedule

The top of the opening page of the website contains a row of radio buttons the stay visible no matter where you roam on the site; the first of these radio buttons is HOME, and by choosing it, you can always return to the familiar starting point.

The second radio button is SCHEDULE & MAPS. Hovering over it offers choices including RAIL, BUS, HEATHLINE and TROLLEY. The astute reader will notice that the same choices are offered in second row of radio buttons, located a few inches down on the website’s top page.

Choosing BUSES at either point changes the browser page to http://www.riderta.com/routes/Bus. From here, you choose the bus line about which you seek information. Once you’ve chosen your bus, it opens up on its own page, such as http://www.riderta.com/routes/10. Here, you can call up a real-time estimate of when the next bus will arrive, and you can also get a system map and a schedule. The choices for RAIL, HEATHLINE and TROLLEY work in a similar manner.

SYSTEM MAPS is another important choice offered under SCHEDULE & MAPS. Choosing it opens up a new page at http://www.riderta.com/maps. Here, you will find the very useful Rapid Transit System Map (with bus connections), which is available at http://www.riderta.com/sites/default/files/pdf/maps/System_Map_Rapid_Connect.pdf. This map, both comprehensive and highly understandable, details the entire Rail System, and how it intersects with the Trolleys, the HealthLine, and all the Bus lines. There is also a complete System Map, a HealthLine map, and maps oriented around important points in Downtown Cleveland.

Choosing the RIDING THE RTA radio button opens a new page at http://www.riderta.com/ridingrta. Here the rider will find information on fares and the most cost-effective ways to pay them. There is also a choice entitled MOBILE APPLICATIONS that opens at http://www.riderta.com/mobile. Here, the reader will learn of the methods to use to enable his or her smartphone to receive the latest information about where that train or bus is, and when it will arrive.
