Tax Brackets in Kansas
The state of Kansas has four marginal tax brackets ranging between the lowest at 3.00% to the highest at 4.90%. Marginal rates will apply to earnings in each applicable tax bracket. Be sure you’re using the current 2013 updated tax brackets.
Single Individual Tax Bracket:
- Earnings between $0.00 and $15,000, you will pay 3.00%
- Earnings over $15,000.00, you will pay 4.90% + $450.00
Married Couples Tax Bracket:
- Earnings between $0.00 and $30,000, you will pay 3.00%
- Earnings over $30,000.00, you’ll pay 4.90% + $900.00
Extensions
In the state of Kansas, if you’re unable to complete and file a return by the deadline, you will be able to file for an extension. If you’ve filed Form 4868 for an extension with the IRS simply enclose a copy of that form with a completed K-40 to receive and extension automatically for your Kansas return. Otherwise there is no separate form in the state of Kansas for filing for an extension. If you will be entitled to a refund no extension is required.
