Connecting South Florida’s commuters from West Palm Beach to Miami, Tri-Rail is a rapid transit train system that serves over 30,000 commuters per day. Using a Tri-Rail schedule, you can generally expect to travel the entire length of the system in just under two hours, so it is a convenient, fast way to get around South Florida.

When using train schedules, there are several important factors to note:

  • Inbound or outbound travel
  • Weekend or weekday schedule
  • Connections to other transit systems
  • Fare cost
  • Parking

When scheduling your rail use, it is crucial to note whether the schedule you’re looking at shows outbound or inbound information. Tri-Rail schedules read “southbound” and “northbound,” so it’s a little clearer which direction you’re traveling in than with some rail systems.

Schedules also vary depending on the time of week. Trains run earlier and later during the week, and they run a bit quicker on weekdays. Weekend trains begin departing at 5:20 and 5:50, and the last arrivals are at 11:00 and 11:43, depending on the direction of travel.

Tri-Rail also connects to Miami’s Metrorail system as well as the Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports, so you can rely on it to get most places in the Miami area and to your subsequent destinations.

Fares are calculated based on how many of the six zones you traverse. For example, if you travel from the West Palm Beach station to the Pompano Beach station, this would be three zones, which would cost $5 for a one-way ticket, $8.45 for a roundtrip ticket, with various other prices for month passes and discount tickets. Traveling the entire length of the Tri-Rail is $6.90 one way and $11.55 roundtrip, making this an inexpensive way to get around.
