A bill of sale is a legal document that is typically used for the sale of a thing for money. The most common type if for the transfer of title for vehicles and most department of motor vehicle (DMV) offices will require this to be authorized by both parties and sometimes signed in the presence of a notary public to be accepted.
How to Write
Most bill of sale documents need the following in order for it to be considered legal;
- Buyer’s Full Name
- Seller’s Full Name
- Description of item being Purchased/Sold
- Serial Number/VIN
- Signature of both Parties – Although some only require the signature of the Seller
It is encouraged to always have at least one (1) witness to the form, and in cases where a lot of money is being transferred, a notary public.
